Divorce & Family Law
Douglas R. Thompson, P.C. represents men and women in divorce and related issues such as property division, alimony, child custody, and child support. Our goal is to resolve the issues at hand to our client's satisfaction and avoiding extensive and costy litigation. We also prepare and review prenuptial agreements.
Divorce
- Uncontested Divorce: Do not consider representing yourself in a divorce until you have first talked to an attorney. If you do not have children and know how you want to divide your property, we can economically complete and file all the paperwork necessary for your divorce.
- Alimony, Child Support, Division of Property: We can help you negotiate the terms of your divorce relating to alimony, child support and division of property.
- Modification of Alimony and/or Child Support: If you are divorced and your domestic situation has changed, you should consider modifying the amount of alimony or child support. The State of Georgia has recently changed the way in which child support is calculated. You should review this if you are paying or receiving alimony or child support.
- Contempt: If your ex-spouse has not followed the divorce agreement (such as failing to pay child support, division of property, child custody or any other item), we can bring legal action to have the court enforce the agreement.
Prenuptial Agreement:
- If you are being asked to sign a "pre-nup", please first see an attorney. We can review your agreement so that you do not sign away your legal rights.
- If you are planning marriage and are concerned that you may be putting your hard-earned assets at risk, we can draft an agreement that is respectful to your future spouse, yet protects the assets that you have amassed prior to marriage.
